SF Chronicle recognizes Fred Peterson and his wines!

It was a dark and stormy night... well afternoon actually, and not really so stormy, just a wonderfully dramatic sky...when SF Chronicle photographer Craig Lee snapped this picture of Fred.

And you could have knocked Fred over with a feather when he opened the Chronicle on January 18th to see his color photo gracing the front page of the Wine section atop the story titled “Zins sweet spot: Sonoma’s Dry Creek Valley may be the key to Zinfandel’s future” which included quotes from Fred on Zins in the Dry Creek Valley.

SF Chronicle's Wine of the Week: Peterson’s 2004 Zinfandel, Tradizionale!

"Fred Peterson makes Zinfandels in a fashion that is increasingly rare nowadays ..., they're often called claret-style. This is a field blend from a dry-farmed Prohibition-era vineyard, filled with tobacco and leather aromas, plus elegant black fruit and dried cranberries.” If you haven’t tried this beauty yet, now’s the time. Click here to order yours today ($25/bottle) or call us at 707-431-7568.

And in addition to all of that, the San Francisco Chronicle gave the Tradizionale a three-star "Excellent" rating in a recent Zinfandel tasting.

Peterson Winery’s 2003 Sangiovese, Il Granaio,
voted Top 100 Wines of 2007, San Francisco Chronicle!

We all know that Peterson wines are amazing, and now it seems the San Francisco Chronicle agrees. We are truly honored to be included in such an exclusive list of the best wines. Here is what they had to say about this remarkable Sangiovese in the December 2, 2007 Wine Magazine: 2003 Peterson Winery Il Granaio Dry Creek Valley Sangiovese ($25) The four years of age are evident here, providing a rubyish Rioja-like buoyancy. Orange-inflected berries are paired with grippy wood tannins. But the solid, sweet fruit never wavers.

With only 250 cases produced, this wine won’t be around for much longer. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to try some. Click here to order now!

NEWS

The San Francisco Chronicle noticed our
2003 Sangiovese, Il Granaio
in their November 9 “What We’re Drinking” section.

Here’s what they had to say about this beauty:

2003 Peterson Il Granaio Dry Creek Valley Sangiovese ($25)

What sold us: This is a bottling of unfined and unfiltered Sangiovese made in the Super Tuscan style with Syrah (9 percent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5 percent) in the blend. Il Granaio means "the barn" though the earthiness is more of an undertone, there's plenty of orange-tinged berry, sweet-tart cherry and toasted nut. Twenty-four months oak aging contributes elegant spice and good tannic structure.

Bottle Barn (Santa Rosa),

Harvest 2007 Recap

"Harvest 2007 has ended. Though it was one of the earliest starts to harvest we've had, the cool weather throughout the second half helped slow down the hectic pace and allowed us to focus on each lot of grapes as it came in. Our new processing equipment saved time and energy in addition to treating the grapes more gently. It truly will be another great vintage.

We're always asked what the best wine is from each harvest, and usually we answer that it is too early to tell. If we had to choose, this year we would say the Gravity Flow Block Syrah and our Old Vine Zin are definitely going to be two stars of the vintage. Now the wines are going through the secondary, malo-lactic fermentation in barrels, and will finish by the end of the year." -Jamie Peterson, Winemaker
